11.0 How to be Happy at Work?

11.1 What is “How to be Happy at Work”?
In discussing this topic, we will firsthand look into the matter by referencing to the concept of Cause and Effect relative to happiness at work. The Cause for us to work is widely subjective to each individual, and by norm a Cause becomes the primary drive for being part of the workforce. Its aftermath, the Effect, is a dependent output resulting from the mixture of Cause and other variables. Equating it would be “Cause + Variables = Effect”. The Variables are the driving key to being happy at work, in other words, your effort in working passionately.
11.2 The Keys to Working Passionately
As mentioned, the key to working happily is to work with passion. So, how can an individual achieve that state?
11.2.1 Fit the Roles and Responsibilities to Your Persona
Do: The first and foremost basic key to happiness is to mutually fit the accountabilities of a job to your persona. Doing so would drive your potential and surpassing its limit, thus, excelling your career on the highway.
Don't: The exact opposite would be fitting your persona to the accountabilities of a job. The norm would be you questioning yourself: "Why am I doing this job?". Such sentence and its alike would reflect badly on your aspiration to work.
11.2.2 Set Short-Term Goals and Long-Term Goals
Do: So, you are employed and you have accountabilities to perform. What's next? Set short-term goals and long-term goals. Short-term goals should be set at a quarter basis or semi-annual the least. Having goals are not enough, which is why you need to construct a plan in realizing the short-term goals. What about long-term goals? The long-term goals basically would be your highly significant achievement resulting from to have achieved the short-term goals. Review your short-term goals after a set period, and study whether or not it aligns to gaining the long-term goals.
Don't: The one thing your should totally not do is to not have any goal at all, a.k.a. being random. Not planning your career would be comparative to the state of being on a boat stranded in the middle of the sea.
11.2.3 Communicate With Your Reporting Manager
Do: Your Reporting Manager is superior to you. In a scenario that he/ she is a great leader (here is a journal on "How to Differentiate Great Leaders from Good Leaders"), surely the Reporting Manager has a plan for your career path attached to the company. Set up a meeting for exchanging thoughts with your Reporting Manager. You may as well convey your personalized plan and discuss how would it conform to his/ her plan.
Don't: Not having a single thoughtful conversation with your Reporting Manager would have him/ her picturing you as a typical employee. You are not unique, just the same as the other employees.
11.2.4 Adapt to the Work-Life Equilibrium
Do: In having a job, you need to manage your time to the company's business hour. Direct your mindfulness solely to work when you are at work, and vice versa. The majority always say "I have no life" or others as such due to not having time for themselves. Try doing this: Focus on how can you spend that little amount of time with high quality. Some people have luxurious amount of time for themselves but still feeling miserable, why? Primarily due to them focusing on quantity, not quality. Be in control of your life, and be ready for uncertainties that may surface at any time.
Don't: One of the reasons why people having the luxury of time for themselves feeling miserable is because they do not plan their activities.
I hope this topic benefits you as much as it has benefited myself, wa la hawla wa la kuwatta ila billah. Insha'Allah, the next topic will be posted in the near future.
