2.0 Daily Life with Remembrance (Part 1)

2.1 What is "Daily Life with Remembrance"?
Daily life with remembrance is basically living our lives in constantly remembering Allah s.w.t. (glorified and exalted be He). How can we do that? It is by employing these twelve words in our daily conversation or dialogue. Encompassing our daily conversation or dialogue with these twelve utterly words promotes our iman (faith), insya'Allah. Apart from practicing these words for the purpose of remembrance, certain words also act as a good will pray to oneself and the other party upon engaging in a conversation or dialogue. Nevertheless, remembrance of Allah s.w.t. is not subjected to only these mentioned words.

2.2 The Thirteen Remembrances
The elements to be discussed regarding these thirteen utterly words are:
1) definition;
2) area(s) of usage;
3) Example(s) of conversation or dialogue; and
4) Reply (subjected to certain remembrances).


2.2.1 Alhamdulillah
1) Definition: Praise be to Allah.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced after completing any speech or action.
3) Example(s): Reaching a destination, finishing a meal, waking up, etc.

2.2.2 Astaghfirullah*
1) Definition: I ask for Allah's forgiveness.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced on events occurred that attract possible sinful aftermath basing on our senses - vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
3) Example(s): Seeing a counterpart's 'aurat', hearing gossips, hearing cusses, smelling prohibited origin, tasting prohibited origin, touching a counterpart's skin in a state of non-muhrim, etc.

2.2.3 Assalammu'alaikum
1) Definition: Peace be unto you.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced in meeting another party.
3) Example(s): Greeting a person/ party.
4) Reply: (a) towards a muslim "wa'alaikummussalam" (and upon you be peace), whereas (b) towards a non-muslim "wa'alaikum" (and upon you).


2.2.4 Bismillah
1) Definition: In the name of Allah.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced beforehand any speech or action that we are to perform.
3) Example(s): Drinking water, riding a vehicle, leaving our house, etc.

2.2.5 Innalillah*
1) Definition: To Allah we belong.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced upon hearing a brother/ sister in Islam's death, or facing/ hearing unfortunate events.
3) Example(s): Hearing a muslim's death, hearing non-benevolent conversation (i.e. gossip), etc.

2.2.6 Insya'Allah
1) Definition: If Allah wills.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced when engaging an event by speech or action in the present or unknown future.
3) Example(s): (a) "Insya'Allah, I will meet you later at 1300 hours for lunch", (b) "I will finish this assignment in two hours, insya'Allah", etc.

2.2.7 JazakAllah khair
1) Definition: May Allah grant you goodness.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced when thanking others.
3) Example(s): (a) "JazakAllah khair for the treat during lunch", (b) "Thanks for giving me way to enter the right lane, jazakAllah khair", etc.
4) Reply: "Wa jazakAllah khair" (and may Allah grant you goodness).

2.2.8 La ilaha illallah
1) Definition: There is no god except Allah.
2) Area(s) of usage: Miscellaneous events.
3) Example(s): After five compulsory solah (prayers), witnessing an event, etc.

2.2.9 La hawla wala kuwatta ila billah
1) Definition: There is no change nor power except by means of god.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced when facing an unfortunate event, or experiencing difficulty.
3) Example(s): (a) "La hawla wala kuwatta ila billah. Ya Allah, this assignment is so stressful. Enlighten my mind so that I'm able to finish this assignment properly.", (b) when witnessing a car malfunctioning on the road, utter "La hawla wala kuwatta ila billah", (b) etc.

2.2.10 Masya'Allah**
1) Definition: Whatever Allah wills.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced when witnessing an amazement.
3) Example(s): (a) "Masya'Allah, the sky is so beautiful." (b) "Masya'Allah, how can a baby react in such ways?", (c) "I got a job in Deloitte, masya'Allah!", etc.

2.2.11 Na'uzubillah*
1) Definition: We seek refuge in Allah.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced when experiencing an unfortunate event.
3) Example(s): Hearing cusses, before entering a toilet, having bad intention, etc.

2.2.12 Subhanallah**
1) Definition: Glory be to Allah.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced when witnessing an amazement.
3) Example(s): (a) "Subhanallah, how can that kid possess an intellectual equivalent to a scholar?", (b) "Subhanallah, I managed to finish this crucial assignment in one hour! Alhamdulillah.", etc.

2.2.13 Wallahu'alam
1) Definition: And Allah knows.
2) Area(s) of usage: To be practiced when not knowing questions of an event.
3) Example(s): A asks "Do you know what caused the accident?" and B replies "I have no idea, wallahu'alam.", etc.
